General Practices

The list below rounds up the nearest GP’s to the halls in Cardiff, mainly around the student areas of Cathays and Roath. It’s vital that you check the advice given by your university when you arrive and get signed up with your nearest GP. It can be tempting to put this off, especially if you don’t require repeat treatment or prescriptions, however, you never know what could happen whilst you’re at uni and potentially hours from your GP at home.

If you find yourself needing to be seen by a doctor, you can’t call for an emergency appointment unless you’re registered. Similarly, you won’t be able to get prescriptions unless they’re from your registered GP

If you move, like in second or third year, you simply need to inform the practice that you’re registered with and arrange to register with your new, local GP. Being organised with these processes makes everyone’s lives far easier.

Remember, we have free health care in the UK so it doesn’t cost to sign up or be seen.
