During your time in Cardiff, you’ll have the chance to experience some really diverse live music. With loads of venues to choose from, here’s our guide to some of the best places to go if you want to live life loud.
This venue, which literally used to be a shed for trams, hosts loads of alternative gigs. If you like a smallish venue where you can listen to great music, enjoy cheap drinks and soak up the non-pretentious atmosphere, this one is for you.

Medium sized Rock Bar and Sports Lounge
For fans of rock, punk, and heavy metal, this is a vibrant icon on Womanby Street, Fuel is a rock bar and sports lounge that caters to all your headbanging needs and Bruce Dickinson from Iron Maiden is often seen here. The music is hard and its beer stained, music memorabilia walls really make anyone (who dares) enter feel at home.

Whatever night of the week, if you fancy some live music then Brewhouse has you covered. It’s less of a gig place than the other venues as it’s first and foremost a bar and restaurant. On the weekends, though, you can expect a packed dance floor. It’s always busy, the food is good and drinks are cheap - enough said!

Cardiff Uni Students Union
Small to medium sized venue
The SU venues (both the Great Hall and Y Plas) play host to some incredible acts. Being for students, it has really affordable prices. Because of the relatively small rooms the gigs always feel really intimate and you can’t beat the atmosphere. Keep an eye out as there are performances all the time.

Large capacity venue
This is where the bigger artists play in Cardiff, so if you want to see people like Jess Glynne, Craig David or Panic! at the Disco this is probably where they’ll be. Expect more expensive tickets and a very different atmosphere to the smaller venues.

Small bar/club venue
Does Live Lounge need an introduction? It’s a student favourite every night of the week, but before it turns into a “club” they play live music all day every day. As always the drinks are cheap as chips, so if at any time of day you fancy a pint and some live music then this is the place to come.
