We all love a good wing (or four) and this recipe is a perfect alternative to your takeaway but just as tasty.

Warning, this recipe is not the cheapest if you don’t have all the ingredients already.

Serves: 2-3 of you (but can serve more)

Prep time: 5-7 mins          Cooking time: 40 mins           Total time: 45 mins

What you will need:

  • A baking dish that can hold at least 8 wings
  • 2 bowls
  • Larger bowl to marinate chicken in (optional)

Ingredients:

8 Chicken wings (you can use more if you wish. Cost me £1.43)

Marinade:

  • 3 levelled tbsp flour (plain or self raising)
  • 1/2 tsp sugar (any but I used granulated)
  • 1/2 tsp sesame oil
  • 2 tbsp light soy sauce
  • 2 tbsp rice wine
  • 1 tbsp water

Barbecue sauce:

  • 5 levelled tbsp sugar (any but I used granulated)
  • 3 tbsp hoisin sauce
  • 2 tbsp light soy sauce
  • 1/2 tbsp sesame oil

Let’s cook…

  1. Preheat oven to 180°C/gas 4
  2. Mix marinade ingredients in a bowl and rub over chicken before placing them in the baking dish
  3. Once chicken is in baking dish, chuck them on the middle shelf of the oven for 10 minutes
  4. While it’s cooking, mix barbecue sauce ingredients for roughly 3 minutes or until sugar is dissolved as much as it possibly can be
  5. Once 10 minutes has passed, take out the wings, spoon the sauce over them and place back in oven for a further 10 minutes
  6. Again, once 10 minutes has passed, take the wings out and spoon the sauce that’s underneath the wings over them. We want the wings as saucy as possible.
  7. Repeat the process once more so that the chicken has had 40 minutes in the oven and voila! Wings done.

P.s. Boiling sugar gets very hot so be careful when handling. The sauce goes well with rice or noodles
