I LOVE a good recipe hack and this is deffo one of them. Recipes for homemade teriyaki sauce usually involve a ton of ingredients not likely to be knocking about in your average uni-student kitchen cupboard. But not this one! Easy, tasty and full of flavour, this recipe is definitely one to impress your housemates with. 

Serves: 4 (24 balls)

Prep time: 15 mins        Cook time: 20 mins           Total time: 35 mins

What you will need:

  • Medium bowl
  • Wok/deep frying pan
  • Wooden spoon or spatula
  • Baking tray w/ foil
  • Chef’s knife and chopping board

Ingredients for balls:

  • Pork sausage meat 400-500g (you can remove the skin from sausages if you can’t find sausage meat)
  • 3 spring onions (chopped finely)
  • 3 garlic cloves (chopped finely)
  • Ginger- roughly same amount as garlic (chopped finely)
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tbsp flour (any)

Ingredients for sauce:

  • 4 tbsp honey
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1/2 tsp sesame oil

Let’s go…

  1. Preheat oven to 180°C/gas 4
  2. Chop garlic, spring onions and ginger 
  3. Combine all pork ingredients in medium bowl
  4. Once combined, roll into 24 equal sized balls
  5. Place on baking tray and bake for 15 mins (or longer if you like)
  6. After 15 minutes, remove from the oven and begin with sauce…
  7. On a medium heat, combine all sauce ingredients to the wok
  8. Once the sauce starts bubbling, add pork balls and stir until it thickens. (Roughly 2 mins). Balls done 

Ways to enjoy this dish:

  • With rice
  • With chow mein
  • By itself
